The Ragdoll Cat
The Ragdoll cat is a very large longhaired cat with beautiful blue eyes and fur that does not matt and tangle like the Persian - although it still needs grooming, especially around its hind legs and gorgeous tail and during molting season.
The Ragdoll cat carries the Siamese colorpoint gene and white spotting gene. As a result it can easily be confused with many of the other longer-furred Siamese-colored felines like the Himalayan cat, the traditional Balinese cat, Birman cats and the Snowshoe cat. The Ragdoll comes in the usual Siamese Cat colorpoints with no white ie. Seal, Chocolate, blue, lilac, red and cream. When you factor in the way the points are shaded you can add lynx, tortie and torbie, but it takes a breeder to often tell these subtle colors apart. Also you can buy the variety called bi-color basically your cat would have white paws plus their tummies their chests and a V shaped white blaze on their face rather like the Snowshoe cat. Then finally you could fall in love with the mitted variety, they have white feet front and back a chin that should be white a bit of white on their tummies and a patch of white on their faces. Confused yet? There is also the Van pattern where the color points only show on the tips giving a dusting of colorpoint effect. This breed of cat was believed to be immune to pain, an apparent benefit as well as a selling point. Luckily this is of course not the case but breeders generally describe them as very calm and loving and the sort of cat that puts up with a lot. This characteristic might be due to the Persian breed’s genetics that make up part of this breeds rather murky but interesting background. These cats sometimes have the dubious distinction of going limp and well…ragdoll-like when you pick them up. This, however, is by no means guaranteed. If you prefer a cat with a bit of FURR and SIZE presence, the wonderful coloring of a Siamese cat with a more laid back personality, the Ragdoll cat might be perfect for you, especially if you have a hectic, noisy and boisterous life at home.
