My cat is soiling our bed, help!

I have 5 cats 2 moggies a Siamese of 4, and 2 Siamese brothers of nearly one, they all actually get on all the three Siamese hang out and sleep together and generally get on, however one of the brothers has started soiling on our bed, our cats go out as we have a large garden and live in a traffic free road, so they go to the toilet outside, I have a feeling it might not go out when its very cold or raining any ideas ? cheers

My Answer:

There can be many reasons for Siamese cats possibly soiling the bed or any cats soiling the bed for that matter! I am assuming that all your cats have been neuteured/fixed?

First it would be best to check with the vet that there is nothing wrong with the cat. Assuming that your Siamese is healthy we have to start our detective work.

First the poor weather might be a reason for your cat to find a new toilet area but since this was not a problem before it might be that a scary neighbours cat has frightened him out in the garden. Cats can be frightened from going outside if they have had a bad experience! and this could be anything from a dog, being mobbed by birds or even loud noises like thunder.

Another reason could be some new friction between your cats or in your household. He is of an age when he might be starting to assert himself within your cat family and this is being resisted! Could your Siamese be stopped from going outside by any of your other cats? Cats can be very subtle about this, just a glance can be enough to freeze a cat in its tracks.

If none of this resonates with you then it might well be an annoying stage that some Siamese and Orientals go through. Annoying that it is, it is something that they grow out of! I have known friends of mine have this happen. It is up to you if you decide to introduce a litter tray for the short term, that eventually slowly migrates to the outside door or cat flap, or you ban the cats from your room. If you are happy for the cats to stay on your bed then it might be an option to put a waterproof cover on top of the bed. At least this will reduce the amount of washing you will have to do! In a short time your Siamese should grow out of this annoying behaviour in my experience.

It is really frustrating to have a cat soil any areas of your home. I hope that this problem resolves itself quickly! Please keep in touch if you still have problems.
